Play Therapy

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning." — Mr. Rogers

What Is Play Therapy?

Events that make sense to adults rarely make the same sense to children. Their brains are incapable of abstract thinking until adolescence, so events like divorce, trauma, or natural disasters are too complex to comprehend. Symptoms come out as bedwetting, aggression, defiance, separation anxiety, nightmares, inability to concentrate. Children can't say things directly. Play therapy uses toys as tools to create a safe environment where children can act out big feelings in a way that makes sense to them.
