The truth is that everyone can benefit from some form of counseling. We take care of our teeth by going to the dentist, we take care of our bodies by seeing a doctor, and sometimes we need to take care of our mind and emotions by seeing a therapist.
If you are struggling with anxiety or depression, therapy can assist you in developing new skills to help you find happiness. If you're going through a rough time and need someone with a listening ear or a new perspective, therapy can help. If your family isn't as tight-knit as they used to be or you need new resources as a parent, therapy can strengthen your family. If you and your partner are struggling to communicate or connect, therapy can help you rekindle the romance.
Rarely is therapy what it looks like in pop culture. Many people picture therapy as lying on a leather couch while an older gentleman with round glasses and a large notebook repeatedly asks, "Now how does that make you feel?"
While there is a couch and feelings are discussed, therapy is so much more. It's an objective listening ear, a place to explore new perspectives, a safe space to process difficult things, and the opportunity to learn new skills to improve your quality of life.
At the first session, you can expect us to chat about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to accomplish during sessions. We'll talk about ways we can help you and explore if our therapeutic approach is right for you. There will be forms to review and payment methods discussed. Subsequent sessions will delve into whatever you're struggling with.
Your therapist will work with you to identify the appropriate frequency for sessions depending on your needs and therapy goals.
Note: New clients cannot be seen on a monthly basis. This does not give your therapist enough time to get to know you, work towards your goals, and assess for progress. As things improve, however, you may check in and see if your therapist recommends monthly sessions and if they offer them.
Yes! We offer online sessions at the same rate as our in-office sessions. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video service and the same practice/privacy policies apply. Online sessions are not appropriate for everyone but if interested, please contact our office and we'll help you determine if it's a good fit for you.
Please note that you must be in the state of Utah to receive these services, per state law. Online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-office therapy and offers many benefits such as convenience for your schedule, being in your own environment, and, let's be honest, wearing sweatpants.
For children and teens, our therapists have additional training and tools to help kids maximize online therapy and get the most out of their sessions.
You are legally and ethically entitled to confidentiality. This means that your treatment cannot be discussed with any other parties without your written consent. There are a few exceptions to this, however. If you disclose abuse or are an imminent danger to yourself or others, confidentiality may be broken. Please refer to our privacy notice for more information.
We accept checks, debit cards, credit cards, HSA/FSA, ecclesiastical pay, and cash. For those paying out of pocket or out of network, we do offer discounts. Please call our office for more pricing information. A session may run anywhere from 50-60 minutes.
At this time, we are an in-network provider for:
- TRICARE
- PEHP
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (Preferred ValueCare, Preferred BlueOption, Participating)
- EMI
- SelectHealth (SelectChoice, SelectCare, SelectMed, SelectValue)
- Aetna
While we're out of network with DMBA and the University of Utah, we are able to process claims with them at a reasonable rate. For all other insurances, we are an out-of-network provider. We are willing to provide documentation for reimbursement through your insurance company.
We accept the following forms of payment: checks, debit cards, credit cards, cash, ecclesiastical pay, health savings accounts, and flex spending accounts.
Please note: While we make every effort to verify your benefits, ultimately, you are responsible for knowing what your insurance provider covers.
At Monarch Family Counseling, we pride ourselves on working with people from all walks of life, culture, and religion. It is not our place to push cultural, political, or religious agendas.
If you wish to talk about religious beliefs as part of your therapy, we are happy to do so. If you aren't religious or want to talk about your lack of religious beliefs, we're great with that too. Basically, it's up to you how much or little religion is part of your therapy. Our therapists are expected to meet you where you're at regardless of their own beliefs/religious affiliation.
We know choosing a therapist is a highly personal decision and sometimes you just don't connect. We encourage you to give your therapist a few sessions to see if you click but, if not, feel free to let them know.
You're also welcome to call our office and ask for our clinical director for a reassignment. Also, if there's ever a point where you have an issue or complaint, please call our office and ask for the clinical director.

Monarch Family Counseling does not guarantee that they will fulfill requests for letters or accommodations. This includes but is not limited to treatment summaries, disability paperwork, and work accommodations.
This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and only after the client has attended enough sessions where the therapist has a full understanding of the client's mental health needs. In addition, we do not write letters for emotional support animals or get involved in legal matters.
