The Most Beautiful — And Stressful — Time Of Your Life
Having a baby is one of the most beautiful but stressful times. With suicide being one of the three leading causes of maternal death, it's important to reach out.
Did You Know?
What we label "postpartum depression" can begin anytime during or after pregnancy. Onset can happen anytime in the first year. Perinatal mood disorders include prenatal depression and anxiety, major postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety and panic, reproductive PTSD, bipolar disorders, and postpartum psychosis.
At least 1 in 7 mothers experience serious depression or anxiety. 1 in 10 fathers experience postpartum depression. 80% of new mothers experience baby blues. There can be a resurgence during hormonal shifts like the first postpartum cycle or weaning.
How Do I Know If I Need To See A Professional?
This is a stressful time and if you feel like you aren't coping, come in for support. Watch for: sadness and crying spells, feeling overwhelmed, irritability, agitation, or anger, sleep disturbance or insomnia, appetite changes, mood swings, apathy, exhaustion, intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, or overprotectiveness.
